I agree a "Horse Apples" style episode with a normal "Wonder Showzen" format might have been easier to take.  But I don't think it was a bad move on the creators' part.  It's not their fault not all of us can easily digest all of their experimentation.

Well I had problems understanding Horse Apples as well. Not because I didn't get the jokes, but beacause I couldn't understand their accent half of the time. And am I the only one who thinks we're all psycho-analyzing this a bit too much? I mean it is just a television show.

    • Yours is a valid observation. I guess the only thing one could respond is by asking you:
    • Have you ever figured out how to see the 3 dimensional picture printed on a 2 dimension page. these used to appear in news paper, comic strips.? You have to suspened your judgement, or vision, and relax your senses to see the picture.
    •  Recall what it was like to watch a show like Hee Haw or Hogan's Hero's, with the laugh track, the blantant sterotypical banter, (i.e., the french, the germans in Hogan Heros, or the country people in Hee Haw). Granted. , Hee Haw itself was an attempt to laugh at its ownself, but it normally only patentedly grounded the sterotype further in to the psyche of our souls by the mere explotiation factor of commerical television.
    • Television is like a virus that breeds racism and steroytpes, and once infected, it needs it subsists over its own bacteria: the audience. So yu have to look at what Horse Apples really is: the logical extension of Hee Haw, and see the multi-dimensionaliy of it all,.
    • WS is not stupid; they are aware of what we have learned in life, and they know its full of shit! Now it time to get wasted on meme Depends (from the makers of BABY BULMIAA! HAHAHAAA!)

You obviously weren't paying attention at all. There were so many tossed off lines that had double meanings and cut to the heart of so many issues, it was ridiculous. Go watch it again. And again. And again. And as many times as it takes for you to actually understand what you're watching.

Maybe you should stop acting as if what you saw was brilliant and realize it was a bunch of stereotypical "Southerners are inbred hicks" jokes.

Dude, seriously, just because the joke went over your head and you don't understand what you saw, doesn't give you the right to say that it had no value. People may say the same thing about Picasso's paintings; they don't get them because they don't look 'real,' but it doesn't change the fact that Picasso was a fucking GENIUS.

Just settle into the fact that you're not as smart as you thought you were, and that you don't get the subtext. Its OK. We're not judging you, but you really need to learn your mental limitations. After all, if you don't realize your mental limitations, how can you be expected to break them?

The issue remains that you, and many others, didn't get it. Its not that it wasn't funny; it just went over your heads. And that's fine. Maybe one day you'll understand, I hope you do. But first you need to realize that your inability to grasp something doesn't make it untrue.

    Cheers!

A Horse Apples episodes with a Wonder Showzen format wouldn't work simply because Horse Apples, by its very existence, is the polar opposite of Wonder Showzen. Crass for the purpose of social commentary vs. crass because it sells ad time and people can eat it up and be entertained without having to think too hard.

Of course everyone has opinions, does that mean that because everyone
does that there is no room for arguement?  Don't act like if some
guy came on here and told you Crank Yankers was a better show than
wonder showzen you wouldn't lace into him.

If some dude came on here saying CY was better than WS, I'd ignore him, because they'd obviously be trolling, as this is a WS board. Beyond that, any idiot who would come to a board for a completely different show just to start trouble I feel extremely sorry for. I certainly wouldn't bother going to a CY board just to say how great WS is. That's fucking pathetic.

Re: What in the hell was that?

I think that the people who didn't like this episode are the type of people who watch Carlos Mencia.  They prefer their racist jokes presented in a more blatant, obvious, and unclever manner that Wonder Showzen just can't seem to get a grasp on.  Carlos really takes those retarded people down off their high horses when he makes fun of them.

I think you missunderstood me, I am defending the episode and saying that the "everyone has their own opinion" defense is weak at best.

Re: What in the hell was that?

Patience was brilliant and original. The entire Season 1 was the most hardcore thing ever to appear on American TV, and the first 2 episodes of Season 2 seemed to show WS still going strong. However..

I was afraid that WS jumped the shark after that lameass "Middle America" shit, and now they've taken the most lame and derivitive joke they've ever made on WS (Horse Apples) and turned it into a whole episode. Anyone who suspected that they were out of material when they came up with the idea of a "bootleg episode" is feeling pretty crappy, right about now. I know I am. Gone, apparently is the subversive chaos of Season 1 and the first couple of Season 2 episodes. The new order is southern jokes, catchphrases and constant self-reference. In other words, the same shit you see on every other "comedy show" on TV.

If you thought Horse Apples was funny, then you might be a mindless fanboi.

Oh yeah, and before you mental giants inform me that I simply don't "get it", I *do* get it - Wonder Showzen has sold out.

Well I always sucked at those books where you try to find the hidden picture. I couldnt get them to save my life. And I can't recall Hee Haw or Hogan's Heroes because... I wasn't alive while they were running. And if I was I would have been too busy watching Nickelodeon to realize it. So I can't really make the comparisson. Plus I never said WS is stupid. Its flat-out amazing.

I personally was laughing at the episode the whole time. One because it was generally funny and two because they had actually made a whole show out of it. It's like that time South Park played that Terrence & Phillip episode and that was funny as well.

Please stop the holier than thou attitude okay?

The joke didn't go over my head. Some parts were funny, some of it wasn't. Overall I didn't like the episode.

You're in no place to say what my mental limitations considering you don't even know me.

"Ah shit... Oh, I mean Horse Apples".

I personally think the jokes in the first horse apples segment were funnier and that the test marketing "Beat Kids" was much more clever and subversive than this (the tripe that consumers will support).

I can see why some people wouldn't like the Horse Apples episode, but I'll be damned if I am gonna watch you criticize the bootleg episode.  And another thing, could everyone stop using the word "subversive" to describe Wonder Showzen.  David Cross used that word on his site and ever since everyone uses it to make themselves sound intellectual.  The bootleg episode was probably the cleverest idea the writers ever came up with.   I

It was clever, but hardly original. Self-reference is a clear sign that a TV show has jumped the shark. WS never referenced itself before like it did in the "bootleg episode". It was a funny episode, but it was funny like other funny things on TV. WS used to be really different, and I'm seeing that disappearing. :(
